Travel Easy

A wise traveler once said: “Take half the clothes and twice the money!”
Try to resist the urge to pack everything including the kitchen sink “just in case.”
The most commonly made mistake made by most travelers is packing too much of everything.
Apart from the inconvenience and stress of conveying it in and out of airports, hotels, trains and buses, there are also charges and fees for excess to think about.
Carrying too much luggage with you will create real frustration and diminish the pleasure of what you set out to do in the first place - that is to have a good time!
It is exhausting work handling heavy luggage and is one of the single most debilitating effects of a trip for most travelers.
If you are undecided about packing an item, you can be almost certain that your intuition is yelling at you to "leave it at home".
The secret to selecting and packing well is to constantly think 'LIGHT' - think minimalism when packing and take only adaptable and comfortable clothing.
Choose items that will suit and serve you well.

Take as much mix and match with you as possible, selecting only light-weight easy-care items that are multi-purpose and functional.
Umbrellas and bulky raincoats should also be on the 'banned' list.

Remember you have only two hands therefore it becomes a juggling act as much as a weight-lifting exercise trying to manipulate heavy luggage and multiple 'hand-carry' items at the same time.
Remember shoes are the worst! They add to the clutter and weight.
Accessorize to bring variety, layer and adjust to the climate.
If traveling by air it is really important to select light-weight easy-care micro-fibre garments to reduce bulk and weight.
Toiletries are a major contributer to the collection of weight creators.

Take the smallest bottles of perfumes, after-shave and other bathroom items possible and replace them as necessary during your travel.
Hairdryers and particularly travel-irons (unecessary with today's modern fabrics) are totally out!
So too is almost anything else with a power cable attached with the probable exception of battery recharging units to keep your video and digital cameras capturing your 'once- in-a-lifetime' travel pictures.
If you are concerned about the appearance of travel wrinkled clothing be creative.
Travel with a small plastic spray bottle, (empty of course), fill it with water when required and lightly spray the clothing and let it hang for a period.
This will usually help the wrinkles fall out.
Another suggestion is to hang clothing in the bathroom while you take a hot shower or soak in the tub while the steam ‘irons’ out some of the creases.

One of the golden rules for ensuring that you have a happy and comfortable vacation is to 'travel light'. I recently consigned my fifteen year old luggage set (total empty weight 15kg) to a well earned 'retirement in the sky' and opted for a new, modern and extremely strong and stylish lightweight set. The difference in weight is just amazing - it's sheer luxury and was totally afforable.
Be on your guard, beat the battle of the bulging suitcase and be ruthless when packing - your back, legs and arms will thank you for it - and so will your wallet!
Happy Traveling
